SNOWMANN
STUDIO ACHERMANN
Kaethi, a true Swiss, gave me this book, it is the funniest collection of snowmen I have ever seen!
NEW ALPHABETS A TO Z

NEW ALPHABETS A TO Z
HERBERT SPENCER AND COLIN FORBES
This disregarded book sat in the children’s section. Nobody noticed that it had the coolest collection of type.
IRON FISTS

IRON FISTS
BRANDING THE 20TH CENTURY TOTALITARIAN STATE
STEVEN HELLER
If you think you are about to reinvent the wheel in branding and identity then read this first.
BOOK OF WAR, MORTIFICATION AND LOVE

BOOK OF WAR, MORTIFICATION AND LOVE
RUUD LINSSEN
A book printed in the authors blood. If you don’t believe me then look at Underware.nl the design collective who published this book. I heard them talking about this book maybe for more than 2 years. I waited in anticipation, as a designer I became more curious about what it would look like then if I would actually like to read the book. Finally when the book was launched it was perfect and as expected the author sat very pale faced signing books with his own brown blood.

STEDELIJK MUSEUM AMSTERDAM
I occasionally look for Stedelijk Museum Catalogues designed by Wim Crouwel. I quite like the idea that they are hard to find, not because they are very rare but because they are so thin. You literally have to pull each book out from the book shelf in case there is one hidden between a dust jacket and a hard cover.
MONDAY

BOLD MONDAY TYPE SPECIMEN NO. 1
PAUL VAN DER LAAN & PIETER VAN ROSMALEN
Recently I was asked to design a page for the Bold Monday type specimen by Pieter and Paul. Although I had to design a page I ended up writing. It was a nice surprise when I received a copy that they had used most of my text to test drive their typefaces.
NEDERLANDSE POSTZEGELS

NEDERLANDSE POSTZEGELS: POSTSTEMPELS ACHTERGRONDEN, EMISSIEGEGEVENS EN VORMGEVING 1987/88
SAMENGESTELD EN INGELEID DOOR PAUL HEFTING
Probably the earliest books designed by Irma Boom I found the set of 2 in a second hand bookstore in the humor section in the Hague. I think someone was hiding them to pick them up later. This is a formal apology to the person that set them aside. I have also tried in the past the hide a book trick and seriously it doesn’t work.
