LOVE FOR SALE

LOVE FOR SALE – THE WORDS AND PICTURES OF BARBARA KRUGER
TEXT BY KATE LINKER

Last year I visited her 1 room show at the Stedelijke Museum in Amsterdam, finally after years of looking at reproductions in books. The scale was unbelievable, I think I was as tall as 1 letter.

KATALOG KAMIENIA

KATALOG KAMIENIA

For a show room catalogue, this goes a long way. Every page looks like a painting. What is interesting though is how the book ends – a selection of images of ‘stone in use’ – unfortunately the whole section is black and white which makes it rather hard to distinguish which stone was used for what.

FUKT

FUKT MAGAZINE FOR DRAWING
EDITOR – BJORN HEGARDT

I found this publication in a small Rotterdam book fair. If you can get a hold of the whole series or subscribe to the coming issues I truly recommend it. The editors have a great eye for selecting work.

ATELIER

PORTRET + ATELIER
HEIJNIS

Last summer I visited 11 second hand book stores in 11 cities in the Netherlands, it was the best way to motivate myself to discover the Netherlands. I found this book in the city of Leeuwarden. This is the first book I have in my collection that smells! It smells of cigars. Every time I have a look I always have an image of elderly man lounging in his Eames, book on his lap, cigar in one hand and occasionally sprinkling his ashes on the pages he spent to much time on.

ZERO

ZERO
STEDELIJK MUSEUM AMSTERDAM

Sometimes when you come across a great find there is always another price you have to pay, the book came with the miserable book seller who hadn’t sold a book since 1921, and his over excitement for human contact.

TROUWBOEKJE

TROUWBOEKJE

I found this wedding certificate in Antwerp, coincidentally the lady mentioned in the book has the same birthday as me, or at least used to.

TRAFFIC IN TOWN

TRAFFIC IN TOWN
MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT

This book is from the time when maps were printed in 4 to 7 special colours. Even though the book dates from 1963 the colours still remain fluorescent, with page after page of traffic diagrams, if the same book existed now they would have at least 3 volumes with all the traffic we have now.

THE BOOK OF PAPER

THE BOOK OF PAPER
OLIVER HEILFRICH & ANTJE PETERS

I saw this book in the making, and heard the stories how the cat attacked the paper models. Finally the book was complete. Antje and Oliver made such a beautiful and delicate book that I am almost afraid to touch it.
